1 starI had a highly disappointing experience with H&R Block in Mill Creek, WA. I was required to pay $675 upfront through their Approve Online (AOL) system before I could fully review my tax return. After paying, I found multiple serious errors—including incorrect HSA reporting, missing mortgage insurance, and incorrect FSA calculations along with many minor errors in recording or calculating the return. I ultimately rejected the return and filed my taxes independently. Over the course of this process, I dealt with several different H&R Block tax pros, each of whom gave me conflicting or incorrect information. I grew increasingly frustrated and distrustful as it became clear they lacked the expertise to handle my return properly even though I met with the tax pro in January and reviewed my previous returns completed by a private CPA that i had moved on from. I spent hours doing my own research just to prove that their work was wrong—research that eventually gave me the confidence and knowledge to file my return myself, correctly. Despite H&R Block’s advertised satisfaction guarantee stating " File with a Tax Pro: We’re so certain you’ll be satisfied with the tax preparation services at our offices, you only pay us if you accept your return", both the Bothell office and corporate refused to issue a refund. The satisfaction guarantee was contingent on filing the taxes—not after payment through Approve Online. I spoke in person with the office manager and followed up multiple times in writing. Every refund request was denied. I received no usable service, only misinformation and added stress. I strongly caution others against trusting this office—or H&R Block in general—with their taxes.Review fromNadiia P

1 starI engaged Agent Melissa P**** to handle my tax preparation on April 9th at ***** **** *** ************* **. She promptly scanned all of my documents into the system and informed me that while she could not complete my taxes that same day, she would contact me on either April 11th or 12th to review and finalize the filing. Unfortunately, I never received any follow-up communication from her. On Monday, April 14th—just one day before the filing deadline—I contacted the office and was informed that Ms. P**** was not present and her availability was unknown. A representative assured me that a message would be relayed to her to call me back urgently. I also contacted the customer service line, where another representative scheduled a call with Ms. P**** for Tuesday, April 15th (the tax deadline). Regrettably, Ms. P**** failed to return my call on Monday and did not honor the scheduled call on Tuesday. Melissa P**** demonstrated a concerning level of unprofessionalism and unreliability. She neglected to provide even a brief communication to inform me that she would not be completing my return. Her failure to fulfill her responsibilities placed me under significant and unnecessary stress, scrambling to meet the filing deadline at the last minute. I cannot recommend her services based on this experience.Review fromDon E

1 starI had to file my 2021-2024 tax returns. I initially had an appointment with H&R Block on 8 April 2025 I asked the tax preparer if H&R block does as advertised, which is to do more detailed looks for money that helps clients get the best tax returns possible. She gave me an agreement that the company would do their best to look at everything for my returns, which made me decide to go ahead and give H&R the opportunity to do my taxes again. I asked about pricing, and she quoted that it would be approximately $178 for the 2024 tax return, and she told me that the other returns for 2021-2023 would be less, which they turned out just as pricey. The tax preparer didn't know much about MIlitary tax credits or exemptions despite being on a Military base. I had my apprehensions at that point, but I gave her the benefit of the doubt. I also made the appointment to go over all returns on 15 April 2025. When I arrived at my appointment on April 15 2025 at 1pm, all of my returns weren't done; the 2021 in particular. I felt at that point that all of my returns were more than likely rushed without a thorough review. I asked the tax preparer a few questions and she seemed very agitated, disrespectful, and as though I was bothering her. Four tax returns came out to a total of $830.50. I wasn't told at any time that Military members and Veterans had the option to use Military One Source, and agency that partnered with H&R block to do taxes for free. I should've been informed about that on my first visit. The tax preparer should've known all things related to doing taxes for the Military and Veterans, especially since doing them on a Military base. I felt it was a complete waste of time; the worst experience I've had with H&R Block! I'm requesting that H&R block just refund me the $830.50 that I paid for the preparations. I haven't mailed or sent any of the tax preparations to the IRS as of yet.Review fromGodiva M

1 starI visited the location on Crain highway Glen Burnie MD after making my appointment for 3pm. I arrived at the office at 2:30 and waited until 4:30 to be seen. The gentlemen came and told me he was behind. Once we entered the office he kept saying oh this is a lot and I reminded him that this was just 3 w2s and a 1099int. Upon arrival he never discussed the fee that would be associated with the return and proceeded to enter the information. I noticed that he kept calling the manager over to help him with the return and he kept calling fir assistance over the phone as well. At no point did the manager take over or suggested another preparer. Once he was able to get everything ready for my review after 4 hours of being there, I found several errors on my return. He kept saying let me call someone to see what they say. I then decided to get the manager and request an experienced preparer which she said that I needed to come back. I left the office after waiting 5 hours and no tax return. Next day I came and was done within an hour. Even after the disgrace of making me wait and come back we found out that he had the return all wrong and needed to be redone. The office had the audacity to charge me and my husband $845 dollars to file our return. The manager stated that she could give us 100.00 dollar discount but that's all she could do and told me to come earlier next time. This was outrageous and should be categorized as stealing from your customers. This was my frist and last time filing my taxes with them. Be aware. Ask questions. Ask for escalations and Don't sign anything before you review your taxes. There were no apologies offered and the manager seemed bothered that I requested and escalation. What a shame!!! They are no experts and they are stealing from the community. The cost should be discussed up front after careful reviewing the return. This is such a deceitful unfair practice and should be investigated.Review fromNicholas D

1 starI scheduled an appointment with these people, wait at least 20 minutes only for the person to not even look into my information, tell me that they'd "call me", and I go home. I then gather up all the calculations of sums, etc. because they kept asking me questions about information that I already have sent over in e-files and had them scanned. This tax pro person sends me to someone else because she "isn't qualified." Second person says they're gonna' get a hold of me, doesn't for days, and is also "Not qualified", sends me to a 3rd taxpro. 3rd taxpro person asks me for no information that was crucial to my taxes and fails to even bring up me having to send in a 1095-A, when I told her on the phone that I'm gonna' need to provide such information when she is ready, including my claiming a dependant. Instead, she tells me an inaccurate amount of money is owed, but it doesn't go through as I'm trying to pay such an insane amount of money that I technically don't even have. She notices what mistake she made that led to this inaccuracy, has me fix it on my end, and then even when the tax assessment is lowered, she charges me MORE money on the HR Block fee. And does it again. Finally we're able to situate everything, and complete the process, and I pay the money. But then when I get a final "Sign here" confirmation in the app and email, I see that the $540 that I spent, that I shouldn't have, has now an ADDITIONAL $70 charged to the balance which renders my entire, horrible experiences, priced at $610 with no explanation, and nothing but hassle, so much in fact that I was attempting to take out loans just to pay off these inaccurate numbers due to HER error, and yet she's awarded for this? I will never do business with these people again, and I find it unacceptable that I had to pay this amount and would like some of this money returned back to me.Review fromElizabeth D

1 starI filed for free and in the end charged for deluxe A rep told me that I should not have been charged and the only way to not get charged was to redo my return. H& R Block are thieves. No exeption made to help customers. I am out a lot of money. I don’t recommend to anyone.Review fromBelinda W

1 starFor five years I was happily using H & R Block to file my tax returns. This year was different. The filing fee was a whopping $470 this year, up from $169 last year. My tax return is uncomplicated, and did not change much from last year. In fact, there was actually one document less this year. After stating this issue in an online customer survey e-mailed to me from H & R Block, the branch manager called. She agreed the huge jump in cost from last year was excessive, but said that because I already paid in full, I could not get any partial refund for the tax return. She said next year I could get the $169 fee again. It is dubious that I cannot even get a $100 refund from corporate for grossly overpaying for my tax return. And I am not willing to wait an entire year for this issue to be rectified in 2026. H & R Block Facebook page says upfront and transparent pricing, but my experience was the opposite. I feel ripped off. I am simply not returning to H & R Block. They have lost me as a client.Review fromLydia R

1 starH and R block is completely unprofessional and incompetent. I had An associate at the office off of 46nd St. and ThomasRd. which is in Phoenix, Az. Tell me that it was fine to come in after the tax deadline. And file my taxes. Obviously you cannot do that, but I can tell you that there's people at that office branch that are giving the public misleading information. So Beware!!!. The lady's name was Ignacia. 1 starI went to them. The person that did my taxes claimed we owed 8000 which didn’t make any sense then they wanted to charge us 375 to file then they claimed thst I had already don’t my own individual taxes which was not true and accused me. The person doing the papers did not know what she was doing and kept asking another worker for help. At this point I felt something was not right and dated I will be getting a second opinion. They were ver nasty to us. Second opinion was half of what they claimed and price to file was 75 percents less. Don’t know what is going on in this office but someone needs to do an audit. Others are being taken for money they should not be paying and probably have mistakes on their filing. Please close them down.Review fromJeanne L. K

1 starI use H&R Block for filing my taxes. Well they gave me at least three different dates which never happened. I was told that they were overwhelmed (not my problem) and I would not be able to have a one on one! I took all my papers they would need and guess what I kept calling them but only for a rude gentleman to tell me they are overwhelmed. Well today is April 14/I call them and they will get back to me no they didn’t and will not answer their phone the dead line is tomorrow and I hear nothing. So what can I do this has never happened to us before or we have never been late filing and we have paid every Penney owed to the IRS…. I refuse to pay a penalty because of their mistake. WHERE DO I GO FROM HERE. I AM NOT A HAPPY CAMPER. SHAME ON THEM….
